The way a family is structured is called the parenting style. Parenting styles are collections of parental attitudes, practices, and non-verbal expressions that characterize the nature of parent-child relationships. Because individuals learn how to parent from many different examples including their own parents, role models,society and life experiences. Parenting techniques can vary greatly from household to household,however, experts believe that parenting styles can be broken down into four main categories which include permissive,authoritarian,authoritative,and neglectful. The style of parenting with which children are raised can profoundly affect their social development, as well as their abilities to deal with life situations as adults. Parents who follow the permissive style of parenting have very few rules, no consistent limits, and more often than not give in to their children.. In a permissive family, the children are in charge. Authoritarian-parents who are punitive and focus on gaining a childs obedience to parental demands rather than responding to the demands of the child. Authoritarian parenting styles give little to no options to a child. What the parent says goes. It is a rigid approach to raising children that may have been most effective in times of great famine or toil. It was used most commonly in large, traditional families in which the father was the patriarch, and everyone else was called to follow his command. Times have changed greatly since. Doctors see a problem with this approach in modern times,it creates a distance between parent and child in which the child doubts the parents love for him. It is based on punishment, which can easily create anger. Authoritative-parenting who are flexible and responsive to the childs needs but still enforce reasonable standards of conduct.the authoritative approach involves effective parental communication with their offspring. Developing empathy and understanding creates a positive atmosphere in which the children can thrive. With a heavy leaning on pyschology, this approach replaces spanking with talking. The weakness to this method, doctors point out, lies in the lack of authority that the child receives. They see a danger in the child learning a lack of respect for authority figures since they never learn about authority itself neglecting-parents who are under involved with their children and respond minimally to either the childs needs or the childs behavior.Putting aside those who are bad parents because they give little time, attention, or effort to the rearing of their children (parents who let their children fend for themselves from a very early age)would fall into the neglectful catagory. Research indicates that about one-third of all parents use authoritative style of parenting. Regardless of the preferred style, varying factors such as culture, the temperament of the child and parent, and parental status will influence the interactive process of that style. That is what society expects from women, which is far away from reality. Everyone is different, and we all should wise up and accept that, before it takes a toll on our future. Women feel they should live up to the very well known Barbie-doll-mutation-image. Wrong! I hope that women start opening up their eyes, instead of emptying out their wallets to plastic surgeons and weight loss crocks. Society is destroying many of our self-esteems. People need to realize that inside beauty is the one true thing that counts. Unfortunately, I have learned this the hard way. What do I mean by the hard way--people ask. Ever since I was in junior high, I have had this Miss America image haunting the back of my mind, just like many--ahem...most--women do. I think a big influence on my feelings about my physical appearance came from a fraction of society...school. Yes, school. Junior high both girls and boys can be very mind taunting. Friends, teachers, and boys had a huge effect on my feelings towards myself. Back when I was 13 years old, the most important regimen in my life was to impress, impress, impress. No matter what it took; sneaking out of the house before school with skimpy tops, missing the bus to finish perfecting the curls in my hair, or as stupid as staying up till 1 a.m. trying to figure out what outfit to wear the following day. If I had only went to an all girl school that had to wear uniforms daily! Moving up to high school was even a more dramatic, steeper step. Oh my gosh, I have to look skinny for that dance coming up! I have to wear makeup to be in with the cool group! All of these insane ideas poured into my mind, confusing my personal feelings even more. I started concentrating more on my looks than on school work. My grades fell pretty hard, and my friends even noticed the change in my moods. It was embarrassing enough to show myself in school. I didnt want to leave my house, because I wanted to be alone. It was like being in my own world, and no one understood where I was coming from. I would give up anything to be skinnier, prettier, and more popular. I pushed everyone away, and I tried dealing with my personal emotions all by myself. I was destroying my self worth, my self esteem, and most importantly, what little pride I still had in me. Another reason I began to want to look better was because of an even bigger part of society. The media--the Internet, magazines, television shows, Miss America pageants, billboards, and even newspapers. When you have time, maybe flip to a page in a Seventeen Magazine and show me an overweight girl, with cellulite outlining her thighs and stomach. Point out a woman with crooked teeth, a huge waist, and a poor makeup job. I doubt you can do it. I almost guarantee that. The media confuses us...to the point where we are manipulated into thinking that this perfect girl image is only what is accepted these days. Not only is it terrible, but that statement thought of by many women is far from being right. Starving myself for days and spending top dollars on clothes and makeup has not molded me into the person I am today. As it will never help anyone out in the long run either. It has been my courage and strength within myself that gave me that extra self-confidence. Also, the power I had to ignore society and the message they have been sending out to the world. Pain, tears, fights with my parents and friends, ditching classes, trips to the hospital, encounters with the police, poor report cards, three years worth of therapy. Boo. I look back on all of these with an immense wince. How awful it was for me to put so much effort into trying to be good enough for everyone, except for myself. Initial results were completed in June 2009 : Liquid Extracts for Disease and Pest Control. * Heat sterilization of finished Vermicompost was shown to remove all plant growth enhancing properties, but these could be restored by the addition of aqueous extracts of un-sterilized Vermicompost. This demonstrates the key factor is clearly microbial, most likely associated with plant growth regulators and increased levels of humic acid and folic acid found in Vermicompost. * Results showed increased growth effects were more frequent and more pronounced at specific concentration levels and application rates. When plants were grown in less specific blends or in mixes of greater concentrations of Vermicompost the beneficial growth, disease and pest control was greatly reduced or lost completely. * This result was unexpected, but confirmed by detailed and rigorous studies using a wide range of Vermicompost substitutions in a commercial plant growth media and in a wide range of plant species. * Optimum germination, growth, flowering, and heavier fields occurred only in a specific formulation that included nutrients other than what is in the Vermicompost. * This takes us down a path that suggests that the chemical or biological agent that is providing the disease control and triggering the plants ability to respond systemically to pest and disease issues is either a soluble uptake or has to be manufactured by the plant as an antagonist. * Conclusion: too much Vermicompost can block the functions that triggers these responses; similar to the way too much nitrogen locks in the leaves and does not allow the proper function of the plant. * Lastly, vigorous, healthy plants, as were observed when grown with Vermicompost, are far less susceptible to attack by plant pests and diseases. In the late seventies, farmers first successfully spawned breeding fish. However, they were hard to obtain and produced unreliable egg viability. In 1980 the first spontaneously spawning happened in sea cages. These eggs were found to be sufficient to generate a constant supply for farms. Fry are raised in either sea cages, large saline ponds (Philippines) or concrete tanks (Indonesia, Taiwan). Milkfish reach sexual maturity at 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lb), which takes 5 years in floating sea cages, but 8-10 years in ponds and tanks. Once 6 kilograms (13 lb) is reached (8 years) an average of 3-4 million eggs will be produced each breeding cycle.[1] This is mainly done using natural environmental cues. However, there have been attempts using gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (GnRH-A) to induce spawning.[3] Some still use the traditional wild stock method. This involves capturing wild fry using nets. Milkfish hatcheries, like most hatcheries, contain a variety of cultures, as well as the target species. For example rotifers, green algae and brine shrimp. They can either be intensive or semi-intensive. Semi-intensive methods are more profitable with it costing $6.67 US per 1000 fry in 1998, compared with $27.40 per 1000 fry for intensive methods. However, the experience required by labor for semi-intensive hatcheries is higher than intensive. Milkfish nurseries in Taiwan are highly commercial and have densities of about 2000/liter. Indonesia achieves similar densities but has more backyard-type nurseries. The Philippines have integrated nurseries with grow-out facilities and have densities of about 1000/liter. There are three methods of outgrowing: pond culture, pen culture and cage culture. * Shallow ponds are found mainly in Indonesia and the Philippines. These are shallow 30–40 centimeters (12–16 in), brackish ponds with benthic algae, usually used as feed.[1] They are usually excavated from ‘nipa’ or mangrove areas and produce ~ 800kg/ha/yr. Deep ponds (2-3m) have a more stable environment and began in 1970. They so far have shown less susceptibility to disease than shallow ponds. * In 1979 pen culture was introduced in Laguna de Bay, which had high primary production. This provided an excellent food source. Once this ran out, fertilizer was applied. They are susceptible to disease. * Cages culture occurs in coastal bays. These consist of large cages suspended in open water. These rely largely upon natural sources of food. Most food supply is natural food (known as ‘lab-lab’) or a combination of phytoplankton and macro algae. Traditionally this was made on site; food is now made commercially to order. Harvest occurs when the individuals are between 20-40cm (250-500g). Partial harvests remove uniform sized individuals with nets or gill nets. Total harvest removes all individuals and leads to a variety of sizes. Forced harvest happens when there is an environmental problem, such as depleted oxygen due to algal blooms and all stock is removed. Possible parasites include parasitic nematodes, copepods, protozoa and helminthes. Many of these are treatable with chemicals and antibiotics. Vermicast Process Vermicast renews the soil and is used as a natural fertiliser. It is made by recylcling organic waste which is transformed into natural fertiliser by using earth worms. The process of how these worms are utilised will be explained below. The process uses a variety of left over products such as grass cuttings, compost, vegetable cuttings and manure from cattle, pigs and chickens. They will then be placed into the following systems: Wind Row System Food is placed on the right hand side of the row and kept moist. Vermicast is then scraped off the opposite side because the worms will gravitate towards the direction that you feed them on. Therefore you are able to remove the vermicast from the left and it wont contain any of the worms. Pond System Start at the bottom-15cm compost. Keep adding 15cm compost at a time till pond is full. Remove whole pond to wash. Wind Rows Undercover Food is placed on front and kept moist. Vermicast is scraped off the opposite side. Feed from the front, worms keep moving forward so what you remove from the back wont contain any of the worms. This is usually done in sheds and on a smaller scale. Children build on oral language knowledge and practices as they learn to read and write’ they develop key understandings about reading through writing, and they extend their writing range through reading† (Braunger & Lewis, 2005). This illustrates how at even the most basic level, language and literacy are interconnected from the very beginning. Therefore, in order to dissect each to see how children learn each, one needs to have a full understanding of both language and literacy apart from each other before one can fully understand how they work together. Language is first and foremost functional. It can be divided into two parts; written language and oral language. â€Å"Language is essential to learning, and ready, as a specialized form of language, is not only a basic skill, it is an indispensible tool for critical and creative thinking† (Braunger & Lewis 2005). There are many similarities between written and oral language, â€Å"Reading, writing, speaking and listening, at the deep levels of production and comprehension, are parallel manifestations of the same vital human function – the mind’s effort to create meaning’(Cambourne, 1988)† (Braunger & Lewis, 2005). For both written and oral language development, children go through a similar learning process; seeing/hearing, recognizing, awareness of the differences in what they are seeing/hearing, participation in speaking/writing (Braunger & Lewis, 2005). While there are many similarities, the two modes of language are different in many complex and interesting ways. These differences are due to such â€Å"pragmatic factors as psychological and physical distance from audience, function, amount of time people have to produce language, and degree of permanence (Chafe & Danielwicz, 1987; Olson 1977; Rubin, 1978; Tannen, 1982). The most salient difference is that the two require different kinds of knowledge that learners must acquire in order to operate with and on them† (Braunger & Lewis, 2005). Additional differences are that each mode requires specific knowledge that cannot be transferred to the other and also that â€Å"written language is doubly symbolic; readers and writers must become at least somewhat conscious of their knowledge of oral language, which isn’t necessary in speaking† (Braunger & Lewis, 2005). Another major difference between written and oral language is its accessibility. Oral language is very readily available through conversations, recordings, music, etc. whereas written language is much harder to come by since it has to be created and then made accessible for others (Braunger & Lewis, 2005). Some of the key features in helping develop an adolescents literacy are; reading a wide variety of texts and genres, teacher modeling, cognitive collaboration, and assessment of strengths. However parents play the most important role in a child’s language and literacy development. It has been shown that the more involved families are in the literacy development of children, the more success the student will achieve (Braunger & Lewis, 2005). It has also been proven that children who have more language experiences such as, opportunities to talk, experiences with stories both oral and written, verbal interaction between adult and child during story readings, and opportunities to draw and write, fare better once they reach a school learning environment since they have had more exposure to the things they are learning in the classroom. This early preparation and learning is vital for building a student’s confidence which will affect all aspects of their schooling. There is no cure for AIDS or HIV. There are however, symptomatic treatments do exist. These treatments can prolong the life of a patient. Symptoms include: fever, chills, night sweats, skin rashes, headaches, malaise, swollen lymph nodes, a nd general discomfort. Flu-like symptoms occur several months after infection. This epidemic is a current one, which began in the mid- 70s, and has effect virtually everyone from the lower class to upper class white senators. The epidemic appears to be world spread beginning in Africa, spreading to South and North America, then moving on to Europe, and finally spreading to Asia and parts of Australia.
